FON Party Taipei

There's a FON Party tonight in Taipei. I look forward to meeting the founder of FON, Martin Varsavsky, as well as several local FON partners, volunteers, and bloggers.

FON provides "social wifi router" at very low cost, sometimes free, to the general public, and expects to create a FON global wifi roaming network in a bottom-up manner. The idea is that FON subcribers share their home or office wifi connection with others and when they travel, they can access other FONeros wifi connection.

It's an exciting, the-more-we-share-the-more-we-get, web 2.0 idea and I look forward to learning more tonight. I also prepare something, facts, challenges and ideas, to discuss with Martin and the audiences.

FON has selected a Taiwanese company Accton as its key wifi router provider.

(zh-tw) 今晚在海邊的卡夫卡, 有一場與FON創辦人Martin Varsavsky的見面會. FON在台灣找了智邦科技來推動FON服務, 智邦也是FON在大中國區主要的router提供商. FON引進台灣, 對於WiFly, 甚至M-Taiwan計畫, 都是當頭棒喝. 兩項計畫花了納稅人上百億的經費, 分贓式的執行控管, 還遠不及FON這短短一年的成果.
