Ray and Mom on Apple Daily

My dear wife Ange and son Ray Chiao appear on today's Apple Daily (蘋果日報). They did this for Green Giant to promote corn can (綠巨人玉米罐頭) in Taiwan. The story was actually done a month ago but released until today after the typhoon (good strategy). Ray really loves corn, as you can see. But does Ange really know those corn recipes? There shall be a personal follow-up report on this :-P

In Bangkok

I am on my way back from Vienna to Taipei after the ICANN Luxembourg meetings, but a typhoon is approaching the Taiwan strait. The pilot decided to land in Bangkok and announced that we will board the plane on 1AM tomorrow morning. I am taking China Airline this time and I think they are doing great job for taking care of us, who take this overnight flight and so wish to be home soon, and also given Bangkok is the popular city during summer time. I am now expecting my hotel room and perhaps a short visit here in Bangkok. I hope everyone's OK in Taipei. Mom's flying to China and she may need to postpone the flight as well.

Chinese Blogger Con

A flickr group has been set up as well. I look forward to joining the event, and even being able to help out.

BTW, it's NOT the first Chinese-speaking blogger gathering. In Taiwan we've done that many times since 2002, in small or large scale. Blogger BoF is a good example, and we have had the BSP gathering on late June as well. But it could be the first major blogger gathering held in China and that, is historical, given blog website in China is required by law to apply for certificate from the government.

ICANN Luxembourg

I am visiting Luxembourg for the ICANN mid-year meetings. Have missed the last two, there are new faces show up in the community, and the familiar faces hold on to the microphones, as always :-)

Virtually, the coolest thing to me is that I am visiting the hometown of Skype :-)

ICANN is facing challenges on Internet governance / WSIS issues as well as on debating on Internationalized web address. In certain points one may wish all lawyers / policy makers leave the meeting room so that we could breathe for a moment. But again, it's important that voices from Internet stakeholders are heard and understood. ICANN could be the place for keeping this good mechanism.

SPAM?

I send my blog digest thru email to friends & colleagues on a regular basis. Most people that I know  still are not used to RSS subscription, and also there are plenty of information to share with. By doing so I wish that I could be helpful and stay in touch. But such email has been considered as SPAM by GSLIN. This is odd and makes me uncomfortable.

I explain much more in Chinese below. --sigh-- If you do not wish to receive my blog digest in the future, kindly write to me directly with title "DO NOT CALL".  :-(

不過好心不一定有好報. GSLIN近日視我此舉為SPAM. 我在此嚴重抗議. 我決不濫發郵件或濫用網路資源. 當我收到疑似SPAM mail, 我會verify出處, 並且email通知發信人, 若不受理, 則我report給spamcop.

update: 有位外國朋友已聽聞此事, 他說: ...SpamCop seems more like a spammer to me then an actual anti-spam company.  If we can help out, just ask.  I'm guessing this person is...stuck on some APNIC/etc mailing list?

每個人對於SPAM的認定標準不同, 這我們都必須去尊重; 但我對於草莽的舉動, 我不期望能有效溝通, 但我有表明立場的權利.

但我知道我疏忽了一件事, 就是確認收到我的blog digest的朋友都是happy的. 要讓每個人都happy不是件容易的事. 如果您已經很不爽了, 我萬分抱歉, 並請您直接email給我並註明title "DO NOT CALL". 如果您曾經覺得我的blog還有那麼一絲價值, 那我感謝您~~

另外, 請不要將TWNIC跟我的blog畫上等號, 我的blog純屬私人性質, 這方面在我的blog首頁已經宣告的很清楚了.

Who should sing in Live 8

Gabriel said he understands Geldof’s decision to select internationally recognized names to play at the big Live 8 concerts in an attempt to raise as much awareness as possible about poverty in Africa, and to pressure Group of Eight leaders meeting in Scotland on July 6-8 to contribute more aid.

"Bob's sole criteria is that he has to keep millions of eyes around the world glued to the television and he felt if it was some remote part of China or Latin America, if it was an unknown artist ... people might switch off," he told Sky TV. "So if they didn't sell 10 million records they weren't going to be invited. I don't agree that's the right thing to do, but I fully understand."

(zh-tw)Peter叔的Realworld Record一直不斷地介紹了來自非洲的優秀音樂家, 自己本身除了在Genesis之外, solo career也是多彩多姿, 但是命運捉弄人, 真正實際用音樂去關心非洲的Peter叔, 並沒有像Bob叔一樣, 在Diana在世時, 弄到一個爵士頭銜, 也沒想到Bob叔 20年後還有力氣能聯合AOL / Nokia等搞Live 8....其實Bob叔的音樂成就相對較低, 但是善於結合政商資源, 操作議題, 明星也買帳, 配合演出, 互蒙其利...別忘了除了被標示為"飢餓的非洲人"之外, Bob叔和他的家人還有後代也是要靠Live 8 + Live Aid未來的版稅啦! Sometimes it's just business, Bob叔, 就多算他一筆功德囉.

BTW樂齡夠資深的, 1985年有看華視現場轉播的, 舉手一下囉!

Skype-In; FCC-out

Skype has just hired Christopher Libertelli, former Senior Legal Advisor to former FCC Chairman Michael Powell, to handle government and regulatory affairs for North America. It's great to see that Skype is stepping up its role in the global policy arena.

So does not mean that the federal government / fcc/ white house / capital hill would be skype-ready in near future?
